PhotoHunt 99: Party

The latest PhotoHunt category from tnchick.com is “Party” which can be interpreted as one sees fit. Now my wife and I aren’t “party people” and never really were. When I refer to party in this sense, I am referring to going out drinking and carousing ’til the wee hours of the morning. Neither of us ever got into that. Also, due to our work hours and that most of our close friends have moved away we don’t have much of a social life. So I had to be a bit creative to come up with photos for this week’s PhotoHunt. I finally decided to feature photos from the 2007 Community Easter Egg Hunt my church had and held on the property.

My wife and I attend a small church on the outskirts of Tallahassee and each year they invite families in the area to attend the “hunt” (it’s more like a mass harvest since the property doesn’t have many hiding places so we place the plastic eggs on the ground in the open). Church members took the time prior to the day of the hunt to purchase hollow plastic eggs and fill them with little goodies like foam decals (I found some really nice Christian-themed ones), marbles, candy, mini-superbounce balls, small toys, etc. We probably had a couple of thousand plastic eggs for the kids to gather. Much more than anticipated. We created three separate areas for the hunts depending upon the childrens’ age and let them loose.

As you can see, they really enjoyed themselves. Some of the youngest children children needed some assistance but all the children had a ton of fun.

Once all the eggs were gathered, we moved everything inside to let the kids open their eggs to see what goodies were inside. It was fun seeing them opening their prizes with such delight. Our preacher also took the time to give a short childrens sermon on the Christian meaning of Easter. And then we had hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch.

We initially attempted to eat outside but it was colder and windier than expected so we took it back inside.
Our preacher created a music video from photographs taken by myself, another church member as well as the preacher and you can view it on our church’s website. Feel free to view it and drop Pastor Kevin an email letting him know your thoughts about it if you would. I think it would tickle him pink to know that people all over the world are viewing his video. Also please leave a comment here letting me know what you thought about my entry this week in tnchick’s PhotoHunt.

That looked like a great day. Even when Easter is in April, there is still snow here. Easter eggs are hidden in the snow. Kids wear their snow suits. It’s more like a sledding party! Thank you for coming by.

The kids look like they are having a blast. I took a look at your float cabin picture from Florida. That’s the same way we move cabins here in Canada, but it is a rare sight to see. Most stay in their anchored location all of their lives. If anyone else would like to see my float cabin party it is at http://powellriverbooks.blogspot.com — Margy

What a great idea for a party for the kids and including the true meaning of Easter. I like the idea of toys inside the eggs instead of chocolate (although I would have liked chocolate) because kids can get crazy with too much candy! Well done, YOU! :D

Those children look just adorable! I can only imagine how much fun it must have been. We had to wait until it was actually Easter Day before we had any egg hunts, if we had any. I can’t really remember ever going to one, but I do remember hearing about them. lol. It didn’t really matter. Mom and Dad would get us enough candy. My brother and two sisters, on the other hand, just didn’t know how to keep their greedy little paws out of my basket! LOL. I would always try to save some of mine. Yeah, right! Thanks for the photos. ;)

The Easter Egg Hunt is always a favorite and the egg a meaningful symbol for new life. Have you ever done Resurrection Eggs? We did the a couple of years ago with our prayer partners at school. IF you do a serach you can find several different ways of making them and the scriptures to go with each item.

20 year Anniversary
Twenty years ago I left New Jersey at the worldly age of 24 and headed for a new life in Orange, TX. I had no idea how different things would be in the swampy backwoods of Southeast Texas.
