Mississippi State Bulldogs

Let’s start with the shocker of the day for me. Mississippi State BEAT Alabama by a score of 17-12. ‘Bama was ranked #22 and was expected to win this game handily. In the past the Bulldogs usually had one upset win a season and I thought they used it when they beat Auburn. But then they come back several weeks later and beat a ranked Kentucky team. Following a bye week, they took on Alabama in Starkville and pulled off another upset. The win makes the Bulldogs bowl eligible. They have two games remaining in their schedule: on the road against Arkansas and then the annual “Egg Bowl” against Ole Miss which will be played on the Bulldogs’ home field. I feel MSU has a chance of winning both of those remaining games and then get invited to a post season bowl. I wouldn’t have thought it possible before this season. However I will have my cowbell primed and at the ready for whatever bowl in which they receive an invite (I hope).

Florida A&M vs Hampton

FAMU was on the road and took on Hampton. Unfortunately they were clobbered by a score of 30-15. They are away playing Bethune-Cookman next week but even if they win, the Rattlers have suffered a losing season. However the coaching staff is optimistic about next season.

Florida State Seminoles

The Jeckyl-Hyde syndrome from which FSU has suffered reared its ugly head again when they played Virginia Tech. The good Seminole team started the game but turned into the bad FSU team in the 4th quarter when Tech put 20 unanswered points on the board. FSU loses 40-21. Two games remain on the ‘Noles’ schedule: Maryland (at home in Doak Campbell Stadium) & Florida (in “the Swamp”). Hard to predict but the game against the Gators will definitely be the tougher of the two.

    Hey Carl,
Love your site. And I’m glad you finally get a three day weekend for Vet’s day. I found you via Born Again Redneck, where I sometimes comment. I’m from near Nashville and follow Vanderbilt so I usually don’t have a lot to get excited about during the fall. We came real close to Georgia and did beat SC and Ole Miss (not that much to brag about there). Anyway, I’ll be stopping by from time to time to see what you’re doing. Keep up the good work.
